Keeping You Healthy

Our dentist in Central London isn’t here just to be the bearer of bad news, they’re here to keep an eye on your health. We all know we each only get one set of teeth, so we really do need to take care of them the best we can when we care.

The condition of your teeth can also be a pretty good indication of how healthy you are. Teeth with lots of decay and gum disease could be signs of a couple of underlying health problems.

Poor Hygiene

Dental hygiene is often neglected, with people spending far too little time tending to their teeth. It’s very common for many to have a quick scrub-and-spit and move on, and this just doesn’t cut the mustard. Spending at least two minutes brushing twice a day and a flossing session is the bare minimum required to maintain healthy teeth and gums. And sure, this can feel like a boring task, but it’s really an act of self-care, one that is seriously needed!

It’s also good to take a second to evaluate what poor oral hygiene tells you about yourself. If you aren’t willing to invest this little bit of time in yourself, then you should ask yourself why that is. It’s a very small thing that could make a big difference to your health, and as such, it should be taken seriously.

Diet

Another major cause of poor dental health, both in terms of gum disease and decay but more so decay, are poor diets, more particularly, diets high in sugars or acids. These diets aren’t easy to avoid because so much of what we now consume has some sort of acid or sugar content. That being said, being conscious and smart is really important. For example, if you are going to consume acid/sugary drinks such as coca cola or lemonade, then you can use a straw as this will protect your teeth. Also, we at Cannon Street Dental Centre recommend investing in a miniature travel toothbrush for when you’re out and about in order to remove any food from your teeth. Mouthwash is also another handy tool, but it shouldn’t be used as a replacement for twice-daily brushing.

Your Dentist in Central London

We hope this has shown just a couple of ways that we can help you and your lifestyle. A dental clinic isn’t all about doom and gloom, it’s a place to help support you in becoming the best, healthiest version of yourself. And with times becoming tighter on the purse strings, attending regular check ups will also help make sure you aren’t about to come across any nasty dental costs.
